Polymeric model systems for flavoenzyme activity: towards synthetic flavoenzymes.

We report the synthesis of a water-soluble flavin polymer using ATRP, whereby the oligoethylene glycol backbone provides both a local hydrophobic environment and redox tuning of the flavin moiety typical of flavoenzyme prototypes.

A biomimetic redox flow battery based on flavin mononucleotide

The versatility in design of redox flow batteries makes them apt to efficiently store energy in large-scale applications at low cost. The discovery of inexpensive organic electroactive materials for use in aqueous flow battery electrolytes is highly attractive, but is thus far limited. Here we report on a flow battery using an aqueous electrolyte based on the sodium salt of flavin mononucleotid...

Synchrotron-Based Infrared Microanalysis of Biological Redox Processes under Electrochemical Control

We describe a method for addressing redox enzymes adsorbed on a carbon electrode using synchrotron infrared microspectroscopy combined with protein film electrochemistry. Redox enzymes have high turnover frequencies, typically 10-1000 s(-1), and therefore, fast experimental triggers are needed in order to study subturnover kinetics and identify the involvement of transient species important to ...

1H, 15N and 13C backbone resonance assignments of pentaerythritol tetranitrate reductase from Enterobacter cloacae PB2

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate reductase (PETNR) is a flavoenzyme possessing a broad substrate specificity and is a member of the Old Yellow Enzyme family of oxidoreductases. As well as having high potential as an industrial biocatalyst, PETNR is an excellent model system for studying hydrogen transfer reactions. Mechanistic studies performed with PETNR using stopped-flow methods have shown that ...

Theoretical determination of the redox potentials of NRH:quinone oxidoreductase 2 using quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical simulations.

NRH:quinone oxidoreductase 2 (NQO2) is a flavoenzyme that catalyzes a one-step two-electron reduction of quinones. During this enzyme catalysis, the 7,8-dimethyl isoalloxazine (flavin) ring of the enzyme-bound cofactor, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), shuttles between reduced and oxidized states as the enzyme passes through multiple cycles of binding/release of alternate substrates. These re...
